A Japanese university has announced the first induction of pluripotency stem cell (iPS) transplantation for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
The world's first transplant surgery for Parkinson's disease was announced at the Kyoto University Hospital last month, the DOE announced today.
The recipient was a 50-year-old patient whose identity was not known and will be screened periodically for two years to avoid rejection.
Takayuki Kikuchi, a surgeon at Kyoto University, said at a press conference, "We have searched the left side of the patient (patient) and transplanted 2.4 million cells.
