The right-wing extremist movement Proud boys in the United States has a parallel group in Canada. The Canadian group was designated a terrorist group in February this year, and on Sunday members announced that the movement would be disbanded.
“The truth is that we are not terrorists nor a white power group,” representatives wrote on social media.
“We are electricians, carpenters, financial advisers, mechanics. And more than anything else, we are fathers, brothers, uncles and sons. ”
Proud boys was founded in 2016 by Canadian Gavin McInnes in the US. The organization grew slowly and embraced street violence as part of the struggle they waged, a struggle that included men who were threatened with deprivation of their masculinity.
The movement was partly embraced by former US President Donald Trump. The stamp of terror in Canada was, among other things, that the movement played a major role in the storming of the Capitol Congress building in Washington DC in the US on 6 January.
