In this regard, the director of the Department of Food Production Control at the National Office for Sanitary Safety of Food Products (ONSSA), Abdelghani Azzi, claims that the control of markets dedicated to the sale of livestock is guaranteed by commissions. Premises that ensure compliance with the sanitary conditions that are in force to limit the spread of the pandemic among breeders and citizens.
These same local commissions also take care of the herd’s health by using food and drinking water, Mr Azzi continued, urging all professionals, breeders and consumers to do the same. Demonstrate discipline and follow the preventive health measures recommended by the competent authorities to reduce the risk of transmission of Covid-19.
The director of the control department for food production at ONSSA also stated, in an interview with the MAP, that the agency since the beginning of this year, in cooperation with various stakeholders, has taken actions to ensure the state of health of the herd, in particular the registration company of sheep and goat feed units intended for slaughter on the occasion of Eid Al Adha and identification of sheep and goats carried out by the interprofessional federation of red meat and the National Sheep and Goat Association.
ONSSA also monitors birds, medicines used at breeding unit level, such as water intended for irrigation, he observed, specifying that the agency’s services take a total of 1,800 meat samples and 600 food samples, in addition to countless communications – and awareness campaigns among breeders, professionals and even consumers.
And to add that nearly 500 veterinarians and mechanics were mobilized during this period, including the two days of Eid, to respond to requests and questions from citizens.
Azzi wanted to reassure the “generally good” state of health of the national herd, in particular thanks to the ongoing efforts of ONSSA throughout the year in terms of herd health monitoring and disease protection .
