Professor J. Kalibatas. Why a booster dose of COVID-19 only after 6 months?

An increasing number of GPs are faced with cases where it is very difficult to explain to their patients who have tested their own antibody titers for their own money and found that 3 or 4 months after the second vaccine, titers are low or even close to zero are, they cannot receive a booster dose. because, you see, you probably have to wait 6 months. After lowering their heads, doctors declare that such a policy decision has been made.

It turns out that the phenomenon of the Procrastinous bed lives on and returns, and some of our politicians become its perpetrators. After all, we all know very well that the recommendation of pharmaceutical companies that have developed mRNA vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 in a record time to be boosted with a third booster dose 6 months after the second vaccine is just a recommendation that ‘. t has yet to be proven.

Do two doses of vaccine really protect us against re-infection with coronavirus for 6 months? Any self-respecting scientist will answer that they certainly do not, but will confirm that it will triple the chance of infection, protect against severe clinical forms of coronavirus infection and prevent death.

U.S. researchers have conducted extensive research to find that only one percent of a group of individuals after a full vaccination (two vaccinations) who are infected (apparently due to a weakened immune system) with coronavirus infection enter the resuscitation areas.

The results seem really satisfying. But, it turns out, some Lithuanians do not really want to become one percent, take care of their health and want to get a booster dose of the vaccine when their antibody titers are low.

But Procrust’s political bed does not allow this – unfortunately it misses 1 or 2 months to the set standard. And immediately hear the statements of our young experts that if the antibody is titers and zero, but we will completely protect the memory cells of the immune system. Maybe when the person is young and the immune system itself is also in bloom.

But what about a 70-year-old citizen? I, as a scientist who has been actively researching the human immune system for ten years, could only shake my head – man, your immune system is really thriving, but I really support the desire to get a third dose of the vaccine without waiting 6 months, which will increase the antibody titer ten-fold and ten-fold. at one percent in the intensive care unit.

Human immune system can respond to vaccines in a wide variety of ways. After all, we have many cases in which practically healthy doctors have already had a serious form of coronavirus infection several times. It would seem that the more severe the form of the disease, the stronger the immunity should develop. Unfortunately, in practice, some rules do not always hold true.

Recurrence of coronavirus infection does not always result in strong immunity. There is no other alternative to vaccination. But I really do not condemn the Lithuanian family doctors who really think we are wasting money on vaccinations for antiviral drugs. After all, some of those who refuse to be vaccinated have long lived in another information-sized ideological space and would only agree to be vaccinated with Sputnik-V, others are afraid of chips introduced with faxes, others are devils.

Perhaps, however, we should focus more on those who do not want to be infected and become ill. Why we do not deploy antibody titers for individuals who are at risk. After all, with a complete picture of how the immune system has reacted to vaccinations, we were able to start booster vaccinations in time, while significantly reducing the number of people infected, sick and dead. At least before we give the third vaccine, let’s try to do this.

It will have invaluable benefits in the future. Maybe some vaccination plans will be delayed. I already know of a number of doctors who refused to be vaccinated 6 months after the second vaccination because the antibody titers were very high. I very much do not want politicians to interfere too much in purely medical matters.

We well remember that until recently one politician tried to tell doctors how and with what medications to treat and how that ended. Maybe let your GP decide when and which person should be vaccinated with a booster dose of COVID-19, taking into account the established antibody titers for all medical indications.
