Gasoline, diesel or hybrid: Which car would you like to drive the most economically?

"Today, greening is becoming more and more important, and automobile manufacturers must match their models with more stringent carbon emissions. Innovation and innovation in new power plants can provide a less polluting and more economical model. We have to take this into account when we have a long-standing belief that diesel models should always pay off when you buy, "said Tomas Pulikas, Swedb's head of consumer loans and automotive finance.

According to T.Puliko, about two of the three new passenger cars sold in Lithuania are made up of gasoline powered cars. The remaining one-third of the model consists of diesel-powered models, with a percentage of all sales coming from hybrid or electric vehicles. In addition to car branding and specific model attributes, two important factors that affect all car purchases are cost and operational costs.

How do you evaluate your car with other technology engines according to this standard? For a more objective evaluation, you can use one of a variety of versatile, gasoline, diesel and hybrid versions of the most popular German manufacturers for comparison.

The price of the same model is up to 50% different

"If you decide to buy this model, you will pay for the 1.4-liter petrol engine, and the new model costs about 28,000. Purchase residual value, you will have to pay about € 302 in a month, "commented the expert.

If a resident chooses to select a model with a dynamic characteristic similar to a diesel engine, it will cost approximately 32,000. Euros, or 14% more expensive. Therefore, monthly rents of EUR 345 will increase.

Finally, the price of a hybrid model with a rechargeable battery is now 50%. For models fitted with gasoline engines, the monthly rent is 435 euros. However, hybrid systems are far more productive than internal combustion engines, and their operation and routine maintenance are less expensive than diesel or gasoline models.

Does lowering cost offset the starting price?

According to T. Pulic, the average fuel consumption of the hybrid model is very low, and according to manufacturer's data, it is 1.6 liters at a distance of 100 kilometers. The gasoline model is 5.1 liters, but the average fuel consumption of the diesel model is nearly three times higher, reaching 4.6 liters.

"The final operating cost is determined by the distance traveled, as well as the technical characteristics. Cost efficiency becomes more important as a car drives more kilometers per year, for example, driving about 10,000 cars a year According to T.Pulikas, the fuel consumption of the gasoline model will take about 637 euros for diesel fuel – about 565 euros, and about 200 euros for hybrid – depending on fuel prices around mid-November, according to T.Pulikas.

If you jointly evaluate the monthly lease payments and the average cost spent on fuel, the gasoline model remains the most costly option to pay € 355 per month. At that time, the diesel rent and fuel consumption was € 392 and the hybrid model was € 450.

T.Pulikas pointed out that the distance traveled a year is considerably long, for example, 25,000 people. The more attractive the cost-effective model should be. But even in this case the gasoline model is the cheapest option. Total monthly rent and fuel cost is about 435 euros. And the cost of diesel engines and hybrid models is similar. In both cases it is about 470 euros.

Additional Advantages of the Hybrid Model

This calculation is based on the average fuel consumption of the manufacturer. It can vary realistically depending on driving style and driving conditions. For example, the advantage of a hybrid model is that it allows you to expose more time while driving on the outskirts of the city, and you can drive the diesel model to travel more time outside the city.

"The hybrid model used for this comparison can also be charged from the power grid, which is much more expensive on a regular basis, costing about 2 euros for 100 kilometers of electricity, and 2 for diesel or gasoline. Some other claim to the hybrid model – over time, it maintains a high value and some of the mechanical elements are worn slower than the standard model, "the expert says.

Despite the efficiency of the hybrid model, their high price still does not hinder the economic appeal of diesel engines, especially gasoline models. When a car is used under normal conditions, a significantly lower starting price will still lead to the use of a new gasoline engine model, which can be the most economically attractive alternative. However, automobile manufacturers continue to invest in the development of hybrid and electric models, but the situation may change when the government plans incentive schemes for these vehicles in the near future.
