Amazon's Echo Buttons accessory for Alexa-based smart speakers can now be more useful than playing games.

First introduced in September 2017, companion devices received updates that enable people to activate their smart home routines using the button. This means you can act as a button to turn on the light without using the voice.

A new option has been added to provide users with routines for echo buttons in Alexa apps with Amazon's latest smart home.

Amazon recently added Echo Sub to its lineup, which is a subwoofer that connects Echos to existing Echos and provides audio boost (PA / Amazon).

Music playback or dinner presentations are some of the other uses that make updates available.

Earlier this year, Amazon announced its Gadget Skill API, allowing independent developers to create their own uses for echo buttons.

Amazon Echo's voice-enabled virtual assistant Alexa recently celebrated her fourth birthday with a special recording by Michael Buble's Harry Birthday.
