Addis Ababa City Administration is a small-scale legal entity that operates on the streets to the main stream of informal businesspeople.
According to Addis Ababa Deputy Mayor Takele Umma, 35,000 street vendors are registered with the 7500 vendors who are plots of land. The Deputy Mayor said, "We are settling street vendors in the identified plots of land which is suitable for business and will work hard to also settle the remaining vendors."
Abdulfetah Yusuf, head of the Addis Ababa City Trade Bureau, said the informal trade had been one of the challenges of the city. He said it was contributed to robbery, disorder and unfair competition with the formal traders.
