France seized Ryanair airplane just before launch – News.cz

The Boeing 737 boarded just before departing for London with 149 passengers at Bordeaux Airport on Thursday evening. Passengers eventually flew five hours behind the other aircraft, the British Daily Mail reported. French authorities apologized for the delay.

The dispute relates to state subsidies received by Ryanair from 2008 to 2009 regarding Angoulême's activities at the French city area airport. The European Commission declared this aid illegal in 2014, and according to the French authorities, the company must return the money.

"French authorities have adopted this bill as a last resort when attempts to raise money have failed several times," French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) said.

The aircraft will not "move" until the company pays the required amount, depending on the authority.

This is the last of many issues that Ryanair recently faced. For example, the Italian authorities will lift the ban on boarding. The company recently lowered its earnings estimates to 1.1-1.2 billion euros due to staff strikes this year.
