Satellites see rapid Greenlandic ice loss

Greenland is due to an "unprecedented" period of ice loss within the last two decades.

The Grace satellites declared a four-fold increase of Greenland's mass magazine lost from 2003-2013.

The study in the National Academy's Proceedings of Science reveals that the ice loss is later rented for 12-18 months.

The research shows how various areas of Greenland can contribute to & # 39; sea level at & # 39; e future.

What does the study look like?

Scientists are talking about sea mirrors having a long focus on Greenland's south-eastern and northwestern regions, where glaciers are always large-scale in the Atlantic Ocean.

But the biggest sustainable acceleration in ice loss from early 2003 to mid-2013 is within the southern Greenland, which is largely not large glaciers.

"Whatever was, it could not be explained by glaciers, because there are not many", said teacher Michael Bevis, the researcher of Ohio State University.

"It had to be the surface mass – the ice around the inland coastline."

What were the melting routes?

What are the results?

The consequence of this finding is that South-West Greenland, which was not a serious threat, considered now as an important future contribution to sea level.

"We knew we had one big problem with increasing rates of ice rods by some major glaciers," said Prof. Evidence.

"But now we are experiencing a second serious problem: at last, great food comes in the ice rink as meltwater, as rivers run into & # 39; sea streams."

GPS systems are now installing Greenland ice for most of her maritime, but the network is sparse in the southwest.

Because the Grace satellites are resuming in 2016, it remains unclear whether the pope in & # 39; s result – which started in 2013 – has now stopped or is still.

What about future (and past!) Science?

Grace (the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) consisted of two earthly satellites that visited detective gravity field anomalies.

A joint mission between Nasa and the German Aerospace Center was launched in March 2002. A replacement couple was set up last year, but still needs to be brought full internet.

The last month, researchers report that the greenish melt has been affected in 350 years.

An American research team investigated ice core from Western Greenland, which is the behavior of the ice cream leaf that comes back to 1650.
